Element Position Opening - Men's Accessories

Designer – ELEMENT MEN'S ACCESSORIES

Job Description:

Duties to include, but not limited to the following:
Design multiple categories in men's Accessories Line.
Work closely with Design Director and graphics department.
Develop new shapes, novelty fabrics, styling details, trims, artwork, etc…
Follow direction, perform market research, and develop creative, innovative, leading designs: sketches, multiple colorways, etc…

Key Requirements:
*Minimum 3 years experience in design with a minimum of 1 year experience in accessory design specifically.
*Creative and detail oriented.
*Highly motivated team player.
*Excellent time management skills to meet frequent deadlines.
*Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment.
*Pro-active with a solution/result oriented attitude.
*Must be MAC computer proficient in Applications - Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Word, Excel, Outlook
*Solid understanding of materials and manufacturing processes relating to packs, bags and accessories

Billabong is currently seeking:

Junior’s Sportswear Product Developer

Job Description:

Duties to include, but not limited to the following:
- Responsible for developing the Junior’s Sportswear line from concept to finished product working closely with designer and management.
- Create and maintain line plans for Junior’s Sportswear line.
- Create and maintain matrices for all styles.
- Communicate with vendors here and overseas to ensure protos and salesman samples are received correctly and on time.
- Review all protos, salesman samples, and pre-production samples and send comments / updated matrices to vendors.
- Negotiate costs with vendors and create cost sheets to ensure margin requirements are met and product is priced competitively at marketplace.
- Handover cost sheets and production matrices to production department.
- Create Junior’s Sportswear portion of the catalog.

Key Requirements:
- Must be deadline driven.
- Must be able to multi task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be pro-active with a solution / result oriented attitude.
- Must have excellent follow though skills.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Must be MAC computer literate in Applications – Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Candidate should have at least 2 years experience is merchandising.

Field trip to Hurley with Scottie Somers

FASH 254 Fashion in Southern California went on their first industry tour at Hurley in Costa Mesa. Scottie Somers, who is the Director of Goodwill and founder of Living the Dream foundation, led the tour for 14 fashion students at Saddleback.

Scottie made the tour really made it special for the students. He spent over 2 hours showing all the areas of Hurley and discussing his personal passion "Living the Dream". (See the website: http://www.livingthedreamfoundation.org) Students discovered that Hurley is an amazing company in all the ways it gives back.... H2O, Living the Dream, collaborations with artists, musicians, surfers, skaters, high school students in "Walk the Walk", CHOC walk - a collaboration with Disney. Students got an inside view at the design wall, sales room, technical design room, Converse room, Nike 6.0, and more!

He took time out of his day to do an amazing tour for the students. Each student got a Hurley t-shirt and chapstick. Thank you Scottie!

Exciting Oakley Guest Speaker This Saturday


This Saturday we have another exciting fashion guest speaker from Oakley named Adrienne Ernst here at Saddleback College. She is a Senior Merchandiser at Oakley and will be explaining what it's like to work in an active sports apparel company with the design team and other merchandisers. She is bringing some awesome visuals if I do say so myself!

Snowboarder Magazine Internship

Student John Huber, did his internship at Snowboarder Magazine where he did a commercial shoot and product photography project he worked on at the end of this semester.
