Freedom and Fashion Volunteer Opportunity
Volunteer for Our 2011 Annual Fashion Show The 2011 Freedom and Fashion Annual Show is quickly approaching and we are now accepting volunteers! Volunteers will be committing to at least 30 hours of volunteer service total throughout the time of your volunteer commitment with us. Dates of the volunteer commitment are as follows: 11/26 and 12/10 (both Saturdays) for volunteer training sessions. 12/16 for rehearsal and 12/17 for the Fashion Show.
How To Apply:
1) Download the volunteer application here and fill it out.
2) E-mail the application with subject title 2011VOLUNTEER! to chris@freedomandfashion.com.
3) We'd love to meet you for a quick interview - please join us in our FNF Office in Downtown LA on November 5th or November 12th from 11am - 6pm for an Open Call Interview.

UCR's "The Well" Center and R.E.A.C.H. is hosting "Take Back The
Night" on Wednesday, April 20th, 2011 at 6pm to 9pm in Highlander Union Plaza. Freedom and Fashion and our friends from LiNK will be at the event bring awareness to our causes. Come join us and hear the voices of women and victims of abuse and sexual violence and help our world work toward eliminating sexual violence. Speakers, presenters and vendors will be at this event, accompanied by performances with an expected 1,000 people in attendance.For more information...

Textile and Product Design Challenge
Our friends at Design21 are hosting a great new competition and we want our BurdaStyle members to get involved! The contest offers two categories in which to submit: textile design and product design. The winning entries will be produced and sold by Grameen Felissimo, benefiting the local markets and communities of Bangladesh through employment and economic independence.This challenge focuses on the importance of social and cause-driven business. “Grameen Felissimo” was launched in February 2011 in conjunction with the Yunus Centre, led by 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Professor Muhammad Yunus. The joint social business aims to contribute to the future generations of the sovereign state of Bangladesh by providing employment to the underprivileged while enhancing the unique artistic culture of the area.
Looking to put the power of design into action, Design21 challenges entrants to create textiles and products that can be seen as a symbol of Hope. Built around the Grameen check, a fabric usually made in the poorest regions of Bangladesh, Grameen Felissimo wants to commemorate the founding of it’s philanthropic project by having contestants design either a new check patterned textile or a product using check patterned fabric. Grameen Felissimo’s idea is to regenerate excitement about artistic production in Bangladesh and help communities expand the market outside of their own village and country.
Winners will each receive $3,000 and have their winning designs produced and sold by Grameen Felissimo. The deadline for entering is April 21st, for more information including, submission guidelines and judging criteria, head over to Design21!

This is a charity fundraiser event in recognition of the National Campaign of the Humane Society of the U.S.. All the proceeds will go toward spay and neutering animals throughout Orange county.

'Freedom and Fashion' Show and Involvement
Freedom and Fashion is holding a Fair-Trade Fashion Show and Trade Show on November 6th. It seems like a really cool event and a way to give back. http://freedomandfashion.com/
There are also ways for students to get involved HERE if they would like an internship that is for a great cause.
Here is a little about "Freedom and Fashion" :
In the spring of 2008, Ms. Kim decided to volunteer at Nightlight, an organization that fights human trafficking and the exploitative sex industry in Bangkok, Thailand. Seeing Nightlight’s immense need of material, human and financial support, Ms. Kim realized that fighting injustice was not as easy as she thought it would be. After her volunteer work was over, she learned about various organizations such as Not For Sale, Polaris Project, and others that were doing work on the front lines — fighting the same fight as Nightlight. But she found that all these organizations had a similar struggle — they all needed consistent marketing and financial support. That winter, she realized that her passion for art and fashion could be used for a greater purpose. She decided to create an organization that would act as a hub for all these great groups; each group would be featured on the runway, and have space to sell their merchandise. At the same time, these groups would be generating awareness about their causes and potentially recruiting new volunteers, as well. Thus, the concept for Freedom and Fashion was born. Freedom and Fashion is a fashion orientated creative arts organization that is a resource hub for fair-trade businesses and non-profit organizations dealing with labor and sex trafficking.

The Environmental Awareness Club has teamed up with Operation Help a Hero, the 2/5 Marines of Camp Pendleton, and the Veterans Club of Saddleback College to organize a Dress Drive. 
This is Saddleback College's first Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Campaign.
How do the 3 Rs come into play here you ask?? Well, this will help you reduce the space in your closet. By donating your old dresses, they will be reused by the 2/5 Marine Corps Wives for the annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball. And any leftover dresses will be made into recycled fashion by a local eco-designer.
This Event will be taking place October 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day You can bring your dresses to SSC 211 or e-mail us to come pick them up from you. saddlebackenvclub@live.com
Philanthro Fashion Event - This Weekend
Lauren Farnham, an alumni of FIDM, graduated in 2006 with a Merchandise Marketing degree. She currently own a clothing line called
Sela, or SelaWear (http://www.selawear.com/).
She is attending classes at Saddleback College currently to improve her design and sewing skills to create my own silhouettes. (awesome!)
To the right is a flier for an event her company is involved in for this Saturday August 28th at a lounge/bar called Flight in Huntington Beach! It is for Miss Anaheim as she runs for Miss California 2011. It is also in support of an organization called Senhoa, a non-profit that supports women and children effected by human trafficking. There is no cost at the door, rather a much appreciated donation of any amount. There will be live musical performances, a DJ and raffle prizes. Join the fun!

Sport Chalet - Donate shoes to Haiti
Easy way to help! All of the Sports Chalet stores are partnering with Soul4Souls and are collecting shoes for Haiti until Jan. 31st. Tennis shoes, running shoes, flats, boots that you no longer wear (most of our old things are still good things/newer things for someone else).
