GenerateHope presents "Girl, Interrupted
GenerateHope presents Girl, Interrupted an inspiring event in the battle against human trafficking for victims of recovery. So mark your calendars for August 13th! Prepare to come with open minds, eyes, ears and hungry stomachs for an evening swarming with great entertainment, music, art and food. Girl, Interrupted will take place right in downtown San Diego in the scenic artsy district of East Village from 8-11 PM. Headlining the event will be the talented The Silent Comedy performing an acoustic set. Featured artists, such as Danielle Berg and Karla Burner, will be showcasing their unique art work. Benefactors include Stone Brewing Co., Sprinkles Cupcakes, Cohn Restaurant Group, Quality Social, and Rockstar Limos. With a impressive lineup of musicians, artists and sponsors, this is an event you don‘t want to miss!
All proceeds will be donated to GenerateHope to help the process of restoration and renovation for a safe house for sexually exploited and trafficked victims particularly in San Diego.

Night" on Wednesday, April 20th, 2011 at 6pm to 9pm in Highlander Union Plaza. Freedom and Fashion and our friends from LiNK will be at the event bring awareness to our causes. Come join us and hear the voices of women and victims of abuse and sexual violence and help our world work toward eliminating sexual violence. Speakers, presenters and vendors will be at this event, accompanied by performances with an expected 1,000 people in attendance.For more information...

'Freedom and Fashion' Show and Involvement
Freedom and Fashion is holding a Fair-Trade Fashion Show and Trade Show on November 6th. It seems like a really cool event and a way to give back. http://freedomandfashion.com/

Here is a little about "Freedom and Fashion" :
In the spring of 2008, Ms. Kim decided to volunteer at Nightlight, an organization that fights human trafficking and the exploitative sex industry in Bangkok, Thailand. Seeing Nightlight’s immense need of material, human and financial support, Ms. Kim realized that fighting injustice was not as easy as she thought it would be. After her volunteer work was over, she learned about various organizations such as Not For Sale, Polaris Project, and others that were doing work on the front lines — fighting the same fight as Nightlight. But she found that all these organizations had a similar struggle — they all needed consistent marketing and financial support. That winter, she realized that her passion for art and fashion could be used for a greater purpose. She decided to create an organization that would act as a hub for all these great groups; each group would be featured on the runway, and have space to sell their merchandise. At the same time, these groups would be generating awareness about their causes and potentially recruiting new volunteers, as well. Thus, the concept for Freedom and Fashion was born. Freedom and Fashion is a fashion orientated creative arts organization that is a resource hub for fair-trade businesses and non-profit organizations dealing with labor and sex trafficking.

The Environmental Awareness Club has teamed up with Operation Help a Hero, the 2/5 Marines of Camp Pendleton, and the Veterans Club of Saddleback College to organize a Dress Drive. 
This is Saddleback College's first Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Campaign.
How do the 3 Rs come into play here you ask?? Well, this will help you reduce the space in your closet. By donating your old dresses, they will be reused by the 2/5 Marine Corps Wives for the annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball. And any leftover dresses will be made into recycled fashion by a local eco-designer.
This Event will be taking place October 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day You can bring your dresses to SSC 211 or e-mail us to come pick them up from you. saddlebackenvclub@live.com

Lauren Farnham, an alumni of FIDM, graduated in 2006 with a Merchandise Marketing degree. She currently own a clothing line called

She is attending classes at Saddleback College currently to improve her design and sewing skills to create my own silhouettes. (awesome!)
To the right is a flier for an event her company is involved in for this Saturday August 28th at a lounge/bar called Flight in Huntington Beach! It is for Miss Anaheim as she runs for Miss California 2011. It is also in support of an organization called Senhoa, a non-profit that supports women and children effected by human trafficking. Fashion Stikes Back is a Gala and Fundraiser that will benefit the YWCA and the Women's Resource Center. The evnt will take place October 22nd and they currently need dressers and hostesses. Haute Magazine is a new and growing fashion magazine in San Diego.

Huntington Beach Green Expo
Saddleback fashion students are invited to participate in the 3rd Annual Green Expo at the Huntington Beach Pier on September 18th from 10a.m. – 4 p.m. Not only one of the highest traffic areas around South Orange County, but the whole event is centered around “green” and sustainable practices. This is the perfect opportunity for Saddleback Fashion Students to showcase their fashion forward/”green” and socially aware apparel talents. They would like more fashion/eco-art/organic food/active lifestyle related vendors this year and balance out the technical side. So far they have four live bands playing that day, live artists and fashion vendors such as Quiksilver. The event will also be offering a non-profit portion at the Expo.Click on forms to enlarge. Sport Chalet - Donate shoes to Haiti
Easy way to help! All of the Sports Chalet stores are partnering with Soul4Souls and are collecting shoes for Haiti until Jan. 31st. Tennis shoes, running shoes, flats, boots that you no longer wear (most of our old things are still good things/newer things for someone else).

Environmental Sustainability Conference
There is an Environmental Sustainability Conference held at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa Friday Jan. 29th. Eco-friendly fashion students went last year and they loved it, but the Eco-friendly fashion class begins after the date for this conference they won't be going this semester.
