'Freedom and Fashion' Show and Involvement
There are also ways for students to get involved HERE if they would like an internship that is for a great cause.
Here is a little about "Freedom and Fashion" :
In the spring of 2008, Ms. Kim decided to volunteer at Nightlight, an organization that fights human trafficking and the exploitative sex industry in Bangkok, Thailand. Seeing Nightlight’s immense need of material, human and financial support, Ms. Kim realized that fighting injustice was not as easy as she thought it would be. After her volunteer work was over, she learned about various organizations such as Not For Sale, Polaris Project, and others that were doing work on the front lines — fighting the same fight as Nightlight. But she found that all these organizations had a similar struggle — they all needed consistent marketing and financial support. That winter, she realized that her passion for art and fashion could be used for a greater purpose. She decided to create an organization that would act as a hub for all these great groups; each group would be featured on the runway, and have space to sell their merchandise. At the same time, these groups would be generating awareness about their causes and potentially recruiting new volunteers, as well. Thus, the concept for Freedom and Fashion was born. Freedom and Fashion is a fashion orientated creative arts organization that is a resource hub for fair-trade businesses and non-profit organizations dealing with labor and sex trafficking.

Fashion and Finance Exhibit at Weisman Museum
INSPIRED BY Fashion and Finance:
Selections from the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation
August 28–December 5
The art in this thought-provoking exhibition explores the great impact that fashion, finance, and socioeconomic themes have had on contemporary art. From the recent international financial crisis to the media’s fixation on luxury and glamour, these themes have inspired artists to look deep into the heart of today’s society. Chronologically, the exhibition begins with Andy Warhol, the pop artist who redefined the boundaries between media and fine art in the 1960s with his iconic depictions of celebrities and dollar signs. Lesley Dill’s Large Copper Poem Dress (shown at left) is a rusted metal ball gown emblazoned with the poems of the reclusive writer Emily Dickinson. Works by renowned artists Keith Haring, David Hockney, James Rosenquist, and many younger talents help us understand, deconstruct, and critique the global obsession with consumer culture.
Open Tuesday - Sunday, 11 AM to 5 PM, and one hour prior to most performances through intermission. Please call 310.506.4851 for more information. Visit the WEBSITE HERE.
